The Lucky presents an evening for the ages! Sit front row as four of the best Chefs in Newy take on their Mentor, Michelin-trained and One Hat certified Chef Matt Kemp, in a battle for the best four-course meal judged by you.

Renowned Chef Matt Smith brings 20-years of experience in upscale and boutique restaurants to the competition. Chef Smith had the pleasure of working alongside Matt Kemp at The Boiler House and Q Station where he was heavily influenced by Kemp’s focus on local and native ingredients. Today, Chef Smith enjoys combining his experience from travelling Europe and Japan with local Australian products such as beef from the Hunter Valley, lamb from the Pukara Estate, and fresh seafood from Port Stephens.

Joey Ingram, formerly from Sydney, moved to Newcastle just over 4 years ago bringing with him experience from two of the city’s greatest restaurants, Tetsuya’s and Balzac to his current position as Head Chef at Margan Restaurant. His signature Agri-dining style was developed after working alongside Matt Kemp, who taught him traditional English butchery skills that led to his love of ‘whole beast’ cuisine. Today, Chef Ingram harvests 90% of what he serves on his kitchen pass from the Margan estate. His renowned five-course set menu is inspired by the use of their whole organic garden.

We have a special place in our hearts for Chef Stephen Scott. Chef Scott brings multiple years of experience working under Gordon Ramsay in London as Sous Chef at The Warrington, Claridge’s, and Maze Grill. Scott returned to Australia in 2016 where he worked in some of Sydney’s top pub kitchens before returning to his hometown of Newcastle where he met Matt Kemp in the Charing Cross Hotel. Today, Chef Scott runs our restaurant at The Lucky Hotel as Head Chef building on his vision of transforming standard pub grubs into international gastro-pub style meals.
